This tea is earthy, strong and yet surprisingly light and uplifting. Along with the usual earthiness of shou, there is a metallic quality to be found in this tea. And after we’ve set down our cup, a strong, lingering cacao-like aftertaste invites us to don’t give up yet!
This is a ‘Gong Ting’ (‘imperial court’) shou, which means that it is made exclusively from golden buds traditionally reserved as a tribute for the Imperial courts. The buds are so small that it takes thousands to make a kilogram of tea. Perhaps that is the reason that this is such an uplifting, energizing tea, and why it feels like this is the Yang counterpart of our 7572 shou.
This tea likewise has been stored for about 15-25 years.
